Nostalgia

Right, Should probably have a serious blog post on here to kick things off.
Let's talk about Nostalgia.
I've had this sudden realization that i'm getting OLD. My impending birthday and GRADUATION are encouraging that. It's a horrible feeling (for anyone reading under the age of 18, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GO OUT AND DO FUN STUFF)

But it's weird
Because age has this habit of making you look back instead of forward.
As you grow older, and spend less time outside, doing fun things that you do when you're young, you spend more time remembering those fun times.
That time when your friend did this or that, that time when that guy/girl you liked did something notable, etc etc.
But the frustrating thing about Nostalgia is that when you or others indulge in it, they simply think "Damn they were some good times", "Ahh i wish we were still like that!" "That was so embarrassing, i'd never do that again" etc.
So why do we react like that? Why don't we get up and jump!?
Laziness?
Lack of faith in the ability to enjoy it?

It's weird. Let's think of an example. Everyone's played 'IT'. See, by saying that word, I've probably made you remember that time you played 'it' that was really fun. "Wow, those were some fun times. Remember when..." would probably be the conversation (unless you were always 'it')
Then what if i said "Go play it again then!"
Nooooo....
That's a bad idea!
Why?
...it's embarrassing to act like kids?
But won't you enjoy it? Are you not the same person who enjoyed that game many times when you were younger?
What changes in a person to make them not enjoy something like that anymore, if anything?
I could go on with a massively in depth metaphysical discussion about the nature of identity, and all those sorts of things, but I couldn't bore you with that today!!!
There's something completely logical in saying that you are the same person you were 10-15 years ago (some people disagree with this, and that's why Philosophy takes so long to get anywhere). but why are you not enjoying the same things you enjoyed 15 years ago? Why can't we actualize Nostalgic situations???

Is it a Social thing? "It's embarrassing to act like kids"? There's definitely something within that statement that suggests such a restraint.
Is it Age? the fact that we are older and wiser, perhaps we don't see the point in having fun like that. We don't want to retrace memories because they are exactly that, Memories.
It is Identity? Are we really a different person to what we were before? I certainly don't have the energy I used to (University and masses of alcohol do that to a person!!!). But what I mean to say is that have our minds morphed in such a way that we no longer identify with the things we used to?

Personally, I probably would enjoy playing 'it' again. It's nice to take your mind off things. But I severely doubt that I ever will with friends again. Strange.
So what do you think? Questions can't be answered alone! And I think i'm going to ask you for an answer!
Why do Nostalgic memories remain as just that? Why do we look back and smile, instead of learning from when we look back and enriching our present and future?
Comments and opinions please!!

P.S Looking at an old blog brought out this nostalgia in me. WHY DID I DO SUCH EMBARRASSING THINGS SUCH AS BASICALLY PROCLAIM MY LOVE ON THE INTERNET? Silly me

Hello Blogverse...again?

Well, this was done on a whim!
Hi, I'm George, I used to blog a long time ago, but it got too angsty and emotional (I was young, I made mistakes!!!) And in the end it diverged alot from what I wanted the experience to be.
I joined Blogger for just one reason, I wanted to express thought that just jumble up in my mind. Beyond the emotionally charged. I'm a philosophy student, so I get alot of weird stuff rambling about!

So this blog could end up being anything! Music, Videos, Philosophy, Creative Writing? The sky is the limit!
So I hope you enjoy, and i'll try and keep this updated!
Cheers
